TDC Missions Highlight!

One of the things we hope to do, by staying in touch each month, is to connect each of you with the TDC network. We also want to share what God is doing through so many of you who are, as John Wimber would often say, “doing the stuff”.

David and Hilary Overton, with Glory Reborn Clinic in Cebu, Philippines, are prime examples of that.

Our history with the Overton’s goes clear back to, not only before they were even “the Overton’s,” but when they were still high schoolers on fire for Jesus, in El Paso Texas. About 24 years ago, the “then” San Diego Vineyard worship pastor Mark McCoy, had been invited to bring some of the band to do a variety of worship outreaches with Jesus Chapel in El Paso. The connection began. Our teams would return there, and teams from there would come and worship with our congregation in San Diego, including a time when a live worship and intercession album, The Document, was being recorded.

In fact, during one of these recorded intercessory prayer sessions, the Lord revealed the name Glory Reborn to later name the clinic. David would eventually go to San Diego State University and major in International Economics, and Hilary began training in midwifery. The Lord had put some very specific plans in their hearts, and little did they know what all would be birthed over the past 19 years living in the Philippines. They have delivered 5000 babies and worked with each of the families in various prenatal and postnatal ways. Their staff has grown to over 35 midwives, nurses, doctors, social workers, etc.

This, from their website, gives a good idea of their mission:

”We provide compassionate and holistic care to marginalized moms and babies of Cebu, Philippines. Glory Reborn in Cebu offers high-quality holistic care and is saving lives, one mom and baby at a time. From our humble beginnings of a small apartment where we provided maternity care with just three midwives, we have now grown into a fully licensed maternity clinic providing sustainable employment for Filipino professionals offering round the clock services to our clients.”

David started a design, development and marketing studio that also employees many Filipinos who are gifted in the same business management that David studied. They are passionate about creating and empowering startups and working on products that have a capacity to make the world a better place. These provided jobs to so many, surely helps reverse the cycle of poverty that is very common in the Philippines. David is still very much involved at Glory Reborn, having helped with many of the administrative tasks and business side of things. It is often joked that he is not a “midwife,” though he was gowned up and assisted in many clinic cases the first many years!  Davids business helps provide for he and Hilary as “the Overton’s” also grew their own family of 3 now. Before the miracle of giving birth to a girl and a boy, they adopted an infant baby in the Philippines from a mamma they had helped with prior children. Another amazing story of God’s plan for these dear friends of Third Day Churches.

This is why it is a privilege to help support Glory Reborn as the clinic, all its services and all of the staff rely solely on in-kind donations. You may like to consider supporting them as well. They have a really amazing opportunity for you to sponsor a mom. Their website listed below gives all the details. You can help a mom from beginning to end, and you would be surprised how affordable that help can be, for you to make a difference in one life.
